The Sorcerer Queen is dead. Long live the Warrior Queen.

General Frejara has barely taken the throne, but the Dragon Fire is already threatening to make her reign as dangerous as the one she fought to end. With the power growing harder to contain, she must find a way to control it before it destroys the kingdom… and maybe even the entire continent.

Hoping to find a way to master her increasingly volatile ancestral magic, Frejara sets out in search of Dragna’toch, the lost fortress of the Sisterhood, where she must find the knowledge she needs to control her power—or a place capable of containing it. Daen is the only person she can trust to help her find the way there and, if she becomes a threat to the entire continent, to do what she may no longer be able to do herself: stop her before it is too late.

In the North, Captain Benjadir fears that his old friend’s new power may make her as dangerous as the oppressor she replaced. Determined to prevent another tyrant, he takes control of the centre of Eryndia, securing cities and crossings to keep Frejara from reclaiming the army. But as his occupation grows progressively more cruel, the measures he believes necessary to protect the realm begin to resemble a campaign of conquest rather than an effort to conserve what remains of it.

Back in Irongate, Astrid is left to hold the kingdom together and establish justice after the Sorcerer Queen’s reign, while the noble houses seek to recover their influence and former Hierophants attempt to regain authority through the persecution of frightened communities. The new Regent must protect the fragile peace from those who would use the unrest to restore the old regime.

As Frejara searches for a way to save the realm from the fire within her, Benni prepares to save it from Frejara herself. Daen must decide how far he is willing to go to protect the friends he has sworn to stand by, while Astrid fights to keep the kingdom from falling back into the hands of those who once ruled it through fear. With their separate paths drawing them towards the same uncertain future, the four lifelong friends may discover that saving the continent will demand more than any of them are prepared to sacrifice.
